Bolin Announces Two Awards for Dominica Film Challenge

It’s agency awards season, and Bolin is pleased to announce the agency has recently been honored with two awards for its innovative work with Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) on the Dominica Film Challenge.

Bolin’s work was honored by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) with a prestigious Bronze Adrian Award for Digital Marketing in the Social Media Campaign category. The recognition by the respected travel industry organization is a particular honor for the agency. More recently, AdFed MN, an Advertising Industry association based in Minnesota, followed suit and awarded the campaign a Bronze Pin in The Show Awards, the association’s annual awards ceremony recognizing the creative work of the competitive Minneapolis advertising community.

The experiential social media campaign was designed to introduce the world to the Nature Island of Dominica through the eyes of adventurous travelers. The remote island, located in the French West Indies, was the perfect backdrop for the teams to bring to life DDA’s 2014 campaign message: Discover Your Inner explorer.

In coordination with DDA, Bolin conducted a global search to find teams of adventurous filmmakers, photographers, and storytellers to participate in the inaugural Dominica Film Challenge. The six finalist teams, selected from over 1,000 entries, spent a week on Dominica documenting their experiences. Each team then compiled their work into a short film or photographic narrative.

“In planning the Film Challenge, our goal was to capture a truly authentic Nature Island experience through the eyes of these talented folks,” said Colin Piper, CEO and director of tourism for DDA. “What each team was able to produce was even better than we could have imagined.”

Projects were posted online at where the public was invited to vote for the project they felt best illustrated Dominica’s story and most inspired the viewer to “discover their inner explorer.” Voters were also given a chance to win a 6-day, 5-night trip to the Nature Island. The 2014 Dominica Film Challenge resulted in over 62 million social media impressions for the brand over the course of the campaign.

The 2015 Dominica Film Challenge kicked off in early March; Bolin and DDA eagerly anticipate similar success for the campaign’s second year.
